mnmly is run by Hiroaki Yamane.
He loves cool stuff, which changed the way he lives and the way he looks at the world. Carefully observing and thinking "why this stuff looks cool" or "why it grabs my attention" opens up the whole new perspectives. At the same time, In most cases those stuff works beautifully in functional ways. It solves problems.
He stumbled upon one quote that threw him into design sphere. Before then, he perceived design as something that is created on Adobe apps. But it is not essentially true. As Herbert Simon put it, "Everyone designs who devises courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones." In short, Simon defines design as changing things into better ones.
Therefore, design is not necessarily about visual, it can be intangible like experience or service.
He is a web developer / web designer dedicating himself to making cool stuff especially in minimalism style. He believes complication is much more difficult than simplicity. Stuffing a lot of elements is pretty easy, but the opposite requires a lot of time and work because it takes a lot of decision-making process on what elements should be picked up as the core to present clearly to audience.
He is from northern part of Kyoto, Japan and is a senior university student majoring in business and commerce in Tokyo. Currently he’s living in Chicago for internship at SimpleScott till August 2011.
The name mnmly is chosen simply because he loves minimal stuff and by having that name with him it reminds him to behave in minimal way.
Feel free to get in touch with him both in English and Japanese :)
